Well the problem comes when I restore to the latest firmware 5.1.1, before that I had my iphone unlocked , i used it with all uruguayan carriers (i live here) but now it asks me to activate (stucked at grey activation screen) and i think the way to bypass that activation screen is only with an australian vodafone simcard, because i tried a lot of uruguayan cards like movistar, claro..(att from usa just in case) and nothing happened(i tried with all this simcards because i believe it was fully unlocked) all i know is that my iphone is from vodafone australia( it supose to be unlocked) ..i thought maybe you can help me online and resolve my problem...the model number of my iphone 4s is md257x , if you need some other information like imei or serial number please tell me where i could send that to you, i hope i only need activation and then my iphone will recognize again all carriers and be unlocked again...thank you very much in advance...greetings from Uruguay to all Australia.

Activating and unlocking your phone are two different things. If you've already unlocked your phone and been using it on other networks, it will still be unlocked, which means there is a different issue at play.
The first thing you should try in order to get your phone working again is a quick sync with iTunes. Plug it in to a computer with iTunes installed and use the Sync function to ensure all the settings on your phone are correct.
If you haven't synced your iPhone with that computer before, then the process will likely remove most of the data on your phone. You should back it all up before doing the sync.
If a simple sync doesn't get you up and running, then you should try a full backup and restore. This can also be done through iTunes on a computer. Once this process is completed, you will be able to use the phone with a non-Vodafone SIM.
If you're still having problems, please let me know.
