3 Mobile Broadband customers

[ Edited ]
Message 1 of 51 (2,937 Views)

From August, anyone using our 3 Mobile services will begin to use our Vodafone network.

What are the immediate changes?
There will be no immediate changes to your plan, bill or the way you’ll recharge. In addition, you can still use Planet 3, My 3 and any existing 3 services.

However, if you are using our 3 Mobile network for your mobile broadband modem or tablet, you will need to adjust your modem or tablet settings to connect to the Vodafone network.

> To change your Internet settings to use the Vodafone network, please visit our support area for more information and a step-by-step guide. You can find that guide on our website here.

> For more information on the upcoming changes including where and when these changes will occur, please visit our 3 Network changes page here.

If you're having any trouble as a result of these changes, or need some help with your specific device, please let us know by replying to this thread.

Hello :smileyhappy: I checked my email and saw that I needed to change some settings just then so I went onto the three website and followed the steps. I am using modem E1756. I got up to step three (where we had to select the box "Enable National Roaming", under the Options > Network tabs. But I can't actually select on the box, if that makes sense. I was able to click boxes in other sections like General (and a tick would appear in the box) , but for the Network part I can't select any of the boxes in "Enable National Roaming" or "Registration Mode". What should I do know?

I'm just freaking out a bit, because it said to change it before the 6th...

Thank you! :smileyhappy:

Okay, so I tried to do that again after I disconnected and the I was able to select the boxes. I then went to press connect and I got the prompt - about roaming and charges, but then when it was connecting another prompt came up saying - You cannot connect before registering on an available network. And then after a while I was able to connect,  but I'm not sure if it's connected to the right one. On the bottom it has the signal and says 3G 3, but it sometimes changes to HSPA 3 and will then go back to 3G 3.

Also, when I look back at the Tools > Option > Network > Registration Mode/ Network Type, (and this is while  I'm connected to internet) I can't select any of the boxes again, and they are also all blank? No more tick on Enable National Roaming?

Also, up until last night, I was able to use Wifi, but now it doesn't work anymore. I used to put the USB modem into a TP-LINK device which connected to the computer and allowed my ipad to use wifi and the computer could also use the internet, but now when I plug it in, it doesn't work... Does this have anything to do with the changes?

I'm just a bit worried that I haven't done it correctly.

Thanks!

I can help you! It certainly sounds as though you're on the right network but just to double check, can you please run through the set up steps here and let me know how you go? You will know if you're on the right network as you will see 3G 3 or HSPA 3, as you've stated above.

Can you please try this for me and then let me know how you go ? This will also allow us to look into the wifi issue for you.

Thank you,

Bree

Hello Bree! Thank you for the quick response :smileyhappy:

The wifi sorted itself out last night! It was weird, it just started working again. And as for the usb modem thing, I went followed the link you gave me and retried the steps. I just noticed the first step was don't have your internet connected (sorry about that, I didn't see it :smileyfrustrated:). Right now on the bottom is says HSPA 3 and 3G 3.

I have another few questions :smileyhappy:

When the USB modem is plugged into the computer, the 3 Mobile Broadband program/ window (not sure what to call it) will pop up, and then I press connect. Will I have to go to Tools, and do the Manual Search Register everytime? Or will it know to connect to the second 3G 3 and remember that I've enabled National Roaming?

Also, because I rarely have the USB modem connected to the computer, as it's usually connected to this TP-LINK device which then has a cable that attaches back to the internet, will the changes still work? As in, will it still know to allow National Roaming and the right network? When I have the USB modem connected to the TP-LINk device, the 3 Mobile Broadband software doesn't open up, as in I can't ge to while it's working through WIFI/ TP-LINK. Will that cause any problems?

And I'm also a bit worried about extra charges? I know that if I am on the Vodafone network the usual charges apply, but is there a chance it will connect to the wrong netowrk?

Thank you very much, and I'm sorry for this long list of questions!!

Courtney

Hi Courtney,

It's great that you were able to sort our the problem with your WiFi, and I apologise for the delay in replying to you.

Once you have changed your settings to connect to the Vodafone network, you will connect to the Vodafone network everytime you log in. If you experience anything other than this, please let me know.

Whilst you will continue to see the 3 network symbol on your device, you will be connected to the Vodafone network which means you won't have the option to roam nationally (we only support national roaming in some areas of Tasmania and Victoria). We do provide good coverage in most suburban areas, so you can check out the coverage in your area by popping your address in to our coverage checker here.

In regards to charges, you will not pay any extra for roaming on the Vodafone network. We have a greater 2G and 3G coverage footprint than the 3 Broadband Zone, so you may find that you won't be roaming at all. If you'd like me to take a detailed look in to the coverage in your area, can you please let me know your suburb and post code?

Are you using your TP-LINK as a sharing dock to connect more devices to it? If this is what you're using it for, have you considered using a Pocket WiFi? I can arrange for our sales team to switch you from the 3 Network to Vodafone and organise a new Vodafone Pocket WiFi for you if you'd like. You can connect up to five devices to the Pocket WiFi, and will eliminate the amount of cords laying around!

If you'd like me to arrange this for you, I'll need a few 3 account details from you. I can't discuss your account information in the Community to protect your privacy, so please send an email to online.help@vodafone.com.au with 393CSCUI3 in the subject field. It would be really helpful if you can include the information listed in our email guide here.

You will notice the email guide will ask for your Vodafone account details, however just include your 3 mobile details instead.

Regards,

Sarah.

On the screen where you are able to select the 'manual or automatic' box, there should be a box underneath labelled 'roaming settings'. Can you please run through this guide, as it will show you step by step how to change the settings on your modem. Let me know how you go.

You may not even experience national roaming in your location on the Vodafone network as we have a much wider 2G and 3G footprint. You can check out what the Vodafone coverage will be like in your area by popping your address in to our coverage checker here.

The charges you will experience whilst on the Vodafone network will not cost any more than they do now on 3. You may not even have roaming charges if you are within our 2G or 3G coverage zone. If you'd like me to have a look at the coverage in your area, can you please let me know your suburb and post code?

If you have any trouble with the above settings after running through the guide, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Regards,

Sarah.

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for getting back to me, on the screen where I'm able to select the automatic or manual box there is no Other boxes for roaming options only mode preference And this stays the same whether I chose manual or automatic no other boxes or options appear. I have looked at my connection and there is an 'R' symbol indicating its on roaming when connected? I have looked into every other settings option and nowhere does it give me roaming options? Very confused?
Iv followed that guide and it just doesn't give me those boxes? Every other step other than that is fine?

I have just spoken with our Specialist Tech Team, and they have advised that depending on the version of software you're running you may not see the option to enable National Roaming on your modem. The guide I have supplied to you is specific to your device rather than your software, so I apologise for any confusion caused by this.

There are very few locations we offer National Roaming, so it is more than likely that you will not be using National Roaming. We offer roaming along selected highways in TAS and VIC, and you can view the specific locations on our website here.

If you do happen to use your modem in an area where we support National Roaming, you'll just need to turn on 3G only and you'll Roam.

Would you be interested in making the move across to Vodafone? If you'd like, you can sign up to one of our broadband plans here, and we can send you a new Vodafone modem. From here I'll be able to make sure National Roaming is permanently enabled on your account.

If you'd like me to arrange for our upgrades team to give you a call about making the switch to Vodafone, please send an email to online.help@vodafone.com.au with C887CSCUI3 in the subject field. It would also be really handy if you could include the information listed in our email guide here.

The guide above will ask for your Vodafone account details, however please include your 3 Mobile details instead.

If you're happy staying with 3 Mobile, feel free to simply reply to this post.

Regards,

Sarah.
