Software Update Weekly Wrap - 27th February 2014

Device Portfolio Manager

We know how much you love to have the latest software on your phone and we love to get it to you. But, we can't always get it to you as quickly as you'd like. What we can do is keep you in the loop throughout the process. This weekly wrap is our way of doing that.

Stuff you need to know about software updates

Just as we don't make the phones we sell, we don't code the software that runs on them. We do some testing to make sure they work as we expect them to, but that's all there is to our part in the process.

Software updates are complicated, and there's a lot of moving parts to take into account (enough to fill three whole blog posts). But that's for us to worry about, not you.
We'll do the hard work behind the scenes like chasing our suppliers and doing the testing. The easy stuff is letting you know how we're progressing, and that's where this post and the table below comes in.

News from overseas

All the info we have on the updates we know about is below. Keep in mind though that this just for us here at Vodafone AU.
What happens overseas doesn't apply locally, so that info on a UK release or news about Android 4.4 KitKat you read on the web won't be coming to your phone straight away.
As soon as we hear news though, this is the place to read all about it. I'll be back for you again next week so stay tuned if what you're looking for isn't here yet.

What's in the labs?

Sony Xperia SP C5303

Recently upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3 and noticed a bug - the screen starts to twitch when it is presented something gray (picture, shutter, volume slider, etc.). Very noticeable at maximum brightness (disable automatic brightness adjustment does not work). Did a master reset - but also to no avail.
Tried to flash a different region - the same problem.
Flashed 4.1.2 - all okay.
The same problem is seen more in seven others - and it is not a hardware problem, a software problem.

I updated my s3 to 4.3 from 4.1.2. There are not s4 features like smart scroll, smart pause and air gesture. Why?

The list of features added in the update are here:

Xperia SP (Quick Maintence Release)...

In my reading quick means QUICK. Please tell me when will you start the testing ? (Approx.)

The bugs in V4.3 are very very very nerve-racking...

Thank you!

Hi @saleem6791  and @NiteshKumar12 ,

This is the best place to get new on what's happening with software updates so when there's a date for the update to roll out, you'll see it here first.

Hi @akkush

Right now, there's no news on a maintenance release for the Xperia SP. Once we receive an update and it's made available for testing, we'll be sure to post it here in the weekly wrap.

Why did you have to remove the clipboard feature on s3 ?? That was easy the most useful feature of the phone for me...

kjmci
by Community Expert ‎03-03-2014 05:33 AM

Vodafone can't add or remove any feature features from updates - only Samsung can do that, @Erfan. What's the specific issue you're having with the clipboard?
