We know how much you love to have the latest software on your phone and we love to get it to you. But, we can't always get it to you as quickly as you'd like. What we can do is keep you in the loop throughout the process. This weekly wrap is our way of doing that.

Stuff you need to know about software updates

Just as we don't make the phones we sell, we don't code the software that runs on them. We do some testing to make sure they work as we expect them to, but that's all there is to our part in the process.

Software updates are complicated, and there's a lot of moving parts to take into account (enough to fill three whole blog posts). But that's for us to worry about, not you.
We'll do the hard work behind the scenes like chasing our suppliers and doing the testing. The easy stuff is letting you know how we're progressing, and that's where this post and the table below comes in.

News from overseas

All the info we have on the updates we know about is below. Keep in mind though that this just for us here at Vodafone AU.
What happens overseas doesn't apply locally, so that info on a UK release or news about Android 4.4 KitKat you read on the web won't be coming to your phone straight away.
As soon as we hear news though, this is the place to read all about it. I'll be back for you again next week so stay tuned if what you're looking for isn't here yet.

What's in the labs?

The last software update weekly wrap had Samsung Galaxy S4 Active 2.2.2 to 2.2.2 (so just a very minor update) as "Testing completed. Awaiting roll out.", this week it's dropped off the list entirely, was it rolled out already?

So I guess this is confirmation that our One Mini is not getting the 4.3 update that was released for international editions in December and instead will remain on the older 4.2 until they release the 4.4?

Hi @5speedeb

There's no news to share on whether there's an update coming for the S4 Mini, once there is, you'll see it in the weekly wrap first.

That's right, the HTC One Mini will go straight to 4.4

Hey @danwale,

We rolled out the update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active back on the 23rd of December 2013. So if you've installed any updates recently, you should already have it.

If you're not sure what version you're running, head to Settings > More > About Device. From there, everything should match the details below.

Android version: 4.2.2

Baseband version: I9295XXUBMK3

Kernel version: 3.4.0-2015525 dpi@DELL173 # 1 Fri Nov 15 17:06:07 KST 2013

Build number: JDQ39.I9295XXUBMK3

Let us know if you're software versions doesn't match up and we'll take it from there.

Any news on the Galaxy S3? Samsung are talking in circles and pointing the finger at the Networks. Still running 4.1.2

Thank you

Cool, the Note 2 joins the Android 4.3 Clan.

Is there any word on when the new S4 (I9506) will be getting Android 4.3 or 4.4?

I was hoping to get a Gear, but there's no point until I can use it...

Are you people sure Xperia M will get android 4.3 ? SONY clearly mentioned on their blog that Xperia M will not get android 4.3.

Hey @Flirkann,

No news right now on a 4.4 update for the GALAXY S4. If that changes, we'll let you know here on the blog.

Hey @sai143mohan,

Once you've updated, you're not able to go back. We do a lot of testing on the updates, so it's best to stay up to date to get the most out of your phone.

Was there something in the update that you're not sure of?

Hey @ImAnurag,

As long as everything runs smoothly through the testing phase, the Xperia M will get the 4.3 update. Keep an eye on future Weekly Wraps if you want to stay in the loop.

Please do update us about 4.3 for xperia m, really excited to see this news. And mind if I ask about the testing phase duration? Will it takes months to complete?

hi @Raj_m

Well there is no set time frame for a testing process it normally is a matter of weeks before release. The reason why there is no set time frame is because of the whole" testing process" which is nicely explained in the blog here by @Kieran

http://community.vodafone.com.au/t5/Vodafone-Blog/The-Android-Software-Journey-Part-3/ba-p/269902

This is just the part 3 of the entire process you can read all about the software journey here :smileyhappy:

Hi @Milan_Vadsak

Did you get your device through Vodafone Australia?

This update is for the Sony Xperia M sold through Vodafone Australia ONLY. This will not be applicable to other versions or handsets bought outside.

You need to contact your servcie provider or Sony India for any updates.

You can contact them here:

http://www.sonymobile.com/in/support/contact-us/

Cheers.

@Cyrille13 But If Sony releases 4.3 update for Xperia M in Australia then it will also release same update in other nations also and India too.

Not necessarily, @Milan_Vadsak - phones are sometimes customised variants for regions, countries or specific carriers. Updates for one market are not always applicable to other markets. The only people who can answer your question accurately are Sony or the carrier you bought your phone from.

The info here is only applicable to phones sold by Vodafone Australia.
