Hey as so I woke up to this..

Pretty much I was on the $30 prepaid cap unlimited txt and what not. Recently ran out and havent got more just yet. As you should know iPhones have a feature called iMessage where you can send free txt messages to other iPhones if you have internet connectiong, I have been using my wifi for this and haven had any troubles until now...
I have been struggling to sleep because of the nonstop SYSALERT messages and I can't just turn off my phone because I have a lot of business to deal with at all sorts of hours.
Any help would be amazing because this has gone beyond a joke. Just in typing this I have received 38 more and I havent iMessaged anyone for 3 days.

I'm very sorry you've had trouble sleeping because of the messages, that certainly isn't the intention. The error message you're seeing certainly is in relation to your account balance, but the high volume of alerts is a little strange.

When you mentioned that your prepaid recharge recently ran out, did you reach the expiry, or the end of the inclusions? With an iPhone frequently using data (including background applications), an alert message may be triggered each time an individual data request is made (for a smartphone, this is often). Even with WIFI active, there may be small data requests made by your device.
Are you able to trial turning mobile data off on your device and letting me know if you receive any more of these alerts in the same fashion? You can see a guide showing how to do this on our website here.
I'd love to hear if this stops the alerts whilst you're in between recharges, it also won't affect your WIFI connection ![]()
Hope to hear back from you soon.
Thanks, Bart.

Hi Steven,
Wow, I can imagine that would be annoying!

Do you get the SYSALERT message only when you're not connected to WiFi, or when you are connected to WiFi too? The reason why I have asked is that iMessage will constantly be checking in to see if there are any new messages or updates, and if you don't have sufficient data, this will cause the SYSALERT message to occur.
If this is happening I suggest turning off iMessage when you're not connected to WiFi, as this will prevent the SYSALERT messages from happening.
Let me know how you go!
Regards,
Sarah.

Yes it happens during wifi. I have left my phone at home today to test that as well with the internet left up. Return home to 700 messages... lol...

Woah, 700 messages would have been a bit of a surprise!
The most likely cause is that there is something set on your handset that is constantly trying to send or receive data. The most likely culprit of this is going to be iCloud, as iMessage will only send data when you're on a WiFi network, the rest of the time it will operate as a normal text message.
In the settings menu of your phone, can you please go to general>iCloud>Documents & Settings and ensure that the option "use cellular" is set to off. This will stop iCloud from trying to backup your documents and data over a 3G connection and will restrict it to WIFi backup only.
It's always a good idea to powercycle your handset after changing settings like this (hold the power and home buttons until you see the Apple logo)
You may also want to install a data monitoring application (there are a few in the app store) which will tell you exactly what applications are using your data in the background and how much they are using.
Let me know how you go once you have disabled backup over 3G and if you have any other questions, I would be happy to take care of them for you.
Cheers,
-Bruno.

Thanks for confirming you're not using iCloud - that eliminates one possible cause of your issue! I'd like to take a closer look at your account, to determine the cause of the system alerts you're receiving. We can't discuss your personal details here in the Community, so I'd like to move our conversation to email. Will you please send an email with this info to online.help@vodafone.com.au using subject field 517CKJBE.
Once I've received your email, I will be able to review your account, and run through some further troubleshooting with you to isolate and identify what is trying to take your credit, and causing you to receive sysalert messages. I really want to fix this for you, so you can get a good night's sleep again!
Thanks,
Kirsty.
