Hi,
Two questions :
1. Will vodafone be switching to the NextG network and if my phone is only 3G compatible will my data services be extrememly slow ?
2. I have a Testra prepaid number I would like to keep this number, is that possible if I decide to change to a vodafone mobile prepaid service?
Thanks,
Zara

The different terms that are used for 2G, 3G and 4G can often make telling the differences between some of them very difficult. The good news is that you've come to the right place to get any answers you need about our products, services and network.
NextG is Telstra's name for their 850mhz 3G network. We also have 850mhz network layer of our own that is currently being rolled out right across the country. 850 is simply another frequency that 3G services operate on, the benefits of which are slightly faster data speeds and stronger signal when you're indoors.
If your handset is 850 compatible, it will automatically connect to this network layer when it is stronger than other signals available in your area, so you will always have the strongest connection possible. If you let me know what type of handset you have, I can let you know if it is 850 compatible.
If you would like to get a real idea of what your service would be like on Vodafone, an easy way is to simply buy a prepaid started pack and put the SIM in your phone. This will let you test our network with another number and if you are happy with the performance, we can then arrange to transfer your current Telstra number to your Vodafone SIM card.
From September, we will also be rolling out further improvements to our network with 3G+ and then 4G in 2013. You can read more about the coming improvements on our website by clicking here.

You can certainly keep your current number as long as it is still active. Transferring your number to another provider is called "porting" and is as easy as asking the provider you want to be with, to arrange for your number to be transferred across, we will then handle the rest of the process for you.
Is there a particular prepaid offer that you were looking at? I've included a link to our website with all of our prepaid offers, you can get to it by clicking here.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else that I can help you with.
Cheers,
-Bruno.
