Simply breathtaking new development

http://vfau.me/dcg4n

I'm guessing a few people got this lovely message. "Vodafone is implementing a correction to its billing systems...data usage charges in line with customers' existing contracts but were not previously billed..."

These consist of file sharing, Skype et al, and services that "require a personal log in (eg. Hotmail and Internet banking)"

Ahem, picking my jaw up.

"Based on your recent data usage, we believe that you may be affected by a higher than usual bill once this correction takes place."

Ahem, scratching my head with my crumbling jawbone. Firstly either this company monitors my data usage or they simply 'believe' I've been skypeing and sharing massive files over the blistering 3G, 1 generous gig of data, vfail network, in which case either way it's plain loco and possibly illegal. Secondly, not only have I not been able to, (even if I wanted to), do these things, the reason why I have high data usage is because I'm currently relying solely on a 3G network that requires that I reload pages repeatedly and more often than not has load times that I can make a cup of tea in. Thirdly, and this one just kills me, nearly every site that I habitually use - banking, mail, the whole Internet for gods sake - requires security. A log in. And now I'm to be charged for this!?

Help me out, have I just read this whole thing wrong, have I been text spammed by an angry employee who's using my personal details (there's history of this at vf), or is the worst provider in Australia asking for more money from customers who have yet to receive that which they paid for?

Oh by the way, sounds like they want to charge for tethering now.

I just got this message from Vodafone too.  Can't believe it.  I'm not sue it's real.  I wasn't able to follow the link from the message, but had to copy and paste it into my smart phone browser.  I guess we'll hear from Vodafone shortly.  (Hopefully it's just a spam mail).

Having read it again, I think they just mean we'll have more accurate data usage statistics.  We're not going to be charged any extra for these services.  Just as long as they are still within our usage allowance then that's fine.  If we go over our allowance, then we'll just start paying more.  Panic over I hope.   Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks Asco for posting the link.

You should discuss this in the other topic, I've addressed your specific points here and here.
