Hi Gemma,
I'm on a $29 Cap over 24mths with a $10/mth and 2Gb/mth 12mth data subscription added on.
I have downloaded applications to my device over the mobile web but nothing over 15mb and I have only downloaded about 7 of them, I have updated my software but I downloaded the update on my WiFi at home.
Currently running in the background is Settings, HTC Sync, Quota, Skype, Calendar, CSPeopleSyncSevice, Sound Set, Market, Maps, Twitter, HTC Sense and Touch Input.
Hi rapier,
Thanks for letting me know this information, it’s really appreciated.
As you have some back ground programs running on your handset, this could absolutely affect your billing. To reduce costs it’s recommend to stop any unnecessary back ground programs.
Were you also aware of the new data corrections as Kirsty has mentioned above, this information is as follows:
From 8 July 2011, the correction will result in charges being applied to: - The use of peer-to-peer file sharing websites that allow users to share content amongst a closed community (e.g BitTorrent, Limewire, iMesh). - The use of Voice over IP (VoIP) applications that customers may have previously downloaded from the internet to their phone. - The use of services via the internet that require a personal log-in (e.g Hotmail and Internet banking)
If you are using any of these services it may explain why your bill has changed recently. If you would like any more information around this, our Community Manager Tim_H has written about this is the discussion link included in the above post.
If you have any further questions around this please feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Jen.

Me too!
I subscribed two products for vodafone...one for $29/month Mobile broadband and then iphone 3Gs ($34 per month)...It should be around $60...but I got a bill and it charged me $78....DAMN! IT! There is no extra data for use and i just used 128mb out of 200mb....It is very annoying.. And Free Facebook access for iphone plan within australia.
Vodafone billing system is a failure
Hi kennyc222,
Thanks for your post; I would like to investigate your billing inquiry with you further.
To clarify, is this your first invoice with us? If so, you would have incurred what we call ‘pro-rata’ charges. I have included a link here to our handy Bill Explainer which may be able to explain these charges further for you.
If these charges are not pro-rata, are you able to please let me know what the exact wording of these excess charges is?
Thank you again for your time and patience, I look forward to getting to the bottom of this with you.
Regards,
Jen.

No This is not my first bill...Normally it costs me $60...but this time $78 without any reasons...no excess data usage at all....And i can provide my account privately if you want

So you're saying that one of these background applications could have used 1.2Gb of data in one session at 8:50am?
These background applications were not a problem during my last billing period so why would they start downloading huge amounts of data now?

kennyc222 ,
Thanks for confirming this is not your first invoice, and so the extra amount are not the pro-rata of your first few days connected.
On page 2 of your invoice, are you able to locate the additional charges? What are they listed under (for example, roaming, national calls, premium services etc).
If I need to access your account to assist you further, I will certainly PM you my email contact details, to move our conversation private.
Thanks!
Kirsty.

Hi rapier_666,
MyVodafone (and your invoice) will show the start time of a data session not the time the data was used. Depending on what your phone accesses and how often, it could collate all the data usage over a period of hours into one block.
I can see you have Skype running in the background - how often do you use Skype? Do you have a Skype Pack added onto your plan?
It’s possible to see higher usage without making any changes due to the data correction made on the network on July 8th. You can read some more details on that here. The correction affected VOIP, Peer2Peer, and secure login services - in your situation, this could be Skype usage you were previously using and not being billed correctly for
If you are using Skype without a Skype bundle, this change will impact your data usage. If this is the case, I am happy to discuss your specific issue with you, but will PM you my email contact details to move the conversation private, as we cannot share your personal information in the Community.
Thanks,
Kirsty.

I do not use Skype at all. I turn my mobile data setting on my phone on and off as i need it to save battery life and to stop my phone from downloading data all the time. I keep the auto-sync setting turned off all the time as well. I do this because I had problems with my last phone and contract with 3 where my downloads would cost me upwards of $50 extra a month due to poor reception and my phone always roaming to telstra towers and charging me extra, so I switched to vodafone to try and get away from all the extra fees. I did not have this problem last month and I have not changed how I use my phone at all, yet I still get charged these huge amounts of data and am currently already $134 over my cap.
