What frequency service do I have? Is there a way of knowing for sure?
I am near Kuttabul 4741 (near Mackay QLD) and until recently I was using a 900/2100 modem dongle on a router. But the router died. Now I am using a wifi 2 multiband, which works well here but doesn't fit the network I need. It is great as an emergency solution, 5 bars and good speed for a rural area - 1.5Mbps.
I want to upgrade, but there are not a lot of options that give me 900/2100 access that also will handle the new 850 if it comes. I can, however, get 850/2100 modem/router.
Now, I think I am on a 2100MHz service, but I would like to be sure before buying anything new. The coverage maps show that there is both 2100 and 900 in the area, although it 'looks' like 2100 where I actually am.
Is there a way to find out what I am actually connected to? I have both the wifi 2 and a 850/900/2100 k4505 modem. Is there a way to see what either of them are connecting with? Is there some other method?

As additional info, we are on a hill in the last strips of blue 2100MHz west of Kuttabul 4741 on the coverage maps, with a line of site to the towers on Mt Blackwood. Which is why we are thinking it's 2100MHz rather then 900Mhz

Hey AmosFairchild,
There is no way of checking exactly what frequency you are using however at this stage it is either 2100, 900MHz or possibly 2G but your device will indicate if it has switched to 2G.

The most realistic option for you is the pocket WiFi. The reason I suggest this is as it can be moved to the best possible location in the house to get you the best coverage available.
Have you tested moving your pocket WiFi in to different areas of your home and noted any differences?
There are a lot of upgrades heading your way and soon. You can check these out on our Network Upgrades Postcode Checker.
Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding your service.

Thanks for the reply. The pocket wifi works very well stuck to the glass in front of the house in view of Mt Blackwood where the tower is located.
I also managed to find a router that works with the k4505 which allows me to connect to a desktop with ethernet cable.
That gives me a couple of options and has everything working and ensures I am ready for any upgrades.
I currently have an antenna attached to the k4505 which I may need to change or remove to better utilize the 850MHz service.
