Slow internet connection

Message 1 of 14 (1,131 Views)

Hi, I am a mobile broadband plan customer living in Belmont WA, my internet reception is extremely slow in the last one week, mainly at night. I use the vodafone pocket wifi to access internet. Can you tell me how to improve my internet connection? Is it a network problem or my device problem? If this problem continues driving me crazy, I will switch to another company. I just remember my contract with Vodafone has expired, so I can leave anytime.

Hi ctheng,

I just had a look at the coverage checker and I see there was a network problem over the past couple of days, affecting data connections. If there is still an issue, it could be due to a number of things, and we might need a bit more information to narrow it down. The network is probably slower at night because more people are using it - congestion. I'm just wondering if you know of anyone else who's had the same problem in your area? Or if you have any other Vodafone devices that could be used to access the internet for a speed test? Unfortunately, without more information its a bit tricky to say what exactly is causing the problem.

In the meantime, the pocket wifi tends to work best when plugged into mains power. Other than that, its basically a game of "find the spot with best reception". I own one of these myself and had similar issues, but there was a network upgrade in my area that was causing it. I hope this helps, and if you can give more information, that would be great as myself, one of the other users, or a Vodafone employee would then be able to assist you further.

Hi dannyg931

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, none of my friends live in my area and use Vodafone network whom I can asks. I have an old Vodafone wifi device, may try it tonight for speed test. I normally plug my pocket wifi to my laptop via usb cable. Will try the main power option and see whether the reception will be improved.

Not sure what other info I can give Vodafone to detect my problems. Will try those options above and come back to forum later.

Regards

There is a variety of different reasons as to why your service is not performing as it should. I can see you normally plug it into your laptop via the cable. The best thing about the PocketWifi is that you can move it around and find the best possible location in your house.

You mentioned you also have an alternate WiFi device to try, when you complete your troubleshooting can you please also go through the troubleshooting guide located Here.

This will rule out many possible causes of the issues you have been experiencing and possibly resolve the trouble you have been experiencing with your service.

Once you complete the troubleshooting please paste the template for Part 3 in your reply along with the corresponding answers.

I look forward to resolving this with you.

Jess

Sorry in advance for the poor editing - I'm sure you'll get the drift though.

My internet reception is extremely slow in the last one week, mainly at night.

I agree.

On Friday night it was 150kbps download and 470kbps upload.

Yep you heard me "shaped" broadband is faster than Vodafone.

I stayed up way past my bedtime and it jumped back up to 1.22Mbps download and 470kbps upload.

This on the same connection with no adjustments to any settings.

Can you tell me how to improve my internet connection

I can suggest a way but it has nothing to do with Vodafone...

I just had a look at the coverage checker and I see there was a network problem over the past couple of days, affecting data connections

Is this the standard response?

How many times a week can there be a problem?

How many years does it take to fix this network problem?

How many moderators burn out repeating and covering the same old issue?

The network is probably slower at night because more people are using it - congestion

Yep and we were all told that the Vodafone network was going to be upgraded.

Even in the last 12 months I have noticed NO improvements.

On the plus side I am now fitter thanks to Vodafone.

Other than that, its basically a game of "find the spot with best reception".

Really you want him to jump up and down and run around and hope he really will get something better.

You guys are hilarious.

After using many computers, various operating systems, adjusting settings, different locations and different times I have come to a conclusion.

Pretending to use a pocket Wifi on the Vodafone network as a Wii fit will only result in getting fit not the internet.

none of my friends live in my area and use Vodafone network.

Are they trying to tell you something.

I have an old Vodafone wifi device, may try it tonight for speed test

Since I'm not far from Belmont I'll test it for you.

23kbps download - gave up waiting for confirmation of the upload speed.

Yep you heard me my dial up in the mid 90's was faster than Vodafone.

Yeah Friday night, at 150kbps, was a good night which is why I stayed up late!

Oh la la!

I appreciate you letting me know about the experience you are currently having in the Belmont area.

+1 for adding the care factor from the template response.<Insert user area here>

The best thing about the PocketWifi is that you can move it around and find the best possible location in your house.

Again with the Wii fit dance routine.

ROFL

The other guy wanted him to dance around too.

I might look that up on YouTube sounds funny - Oh wait I can't 23kpbs remember.

I look forward to resolving this with you.

How?

Will you call the tech out now and boost the signal gain on the tower?

Will you send us the mod to improve the SNR on the receive IC in the Pocket wifi?

Will you cancel half the users so that the data usage of the network is realistic for the users?

Will you call the CEO and tell him to flash the cash and really do the upgrades Vodafone promised?

Stop rolling your eye's at me.

MY suggestion to users is to learn patience with your half dial-up speed.

CLICK next page - go for a walk and come back.

CLICK next page - make some dinner and come back.

CLICK next page - see what is on TV and come back...

MY suggestion to Vodafone is to stop selling it as broadband.

Still calling it "Wireless Dial-up" (I'll trade mark that) may confuse some people.

Disclaimer: I in no-way endorse wii fit, youtube or any other stuff I may have mentioned which are trademarked.

You're absolutely right that there are some standard responses that you will see to issues around coverage and data performance. These questions and troubleshooting steps are designed to help us identify the cause of the issues (and possible solutions) as quickly as possible.

Where this initial process of identifying key factors of your issue is not able to resolve the situation, we move on to more detailed investigation in order to find a resolution for you.

If you're seeing huge fluctuations in your data speeds and we haven't been able to resolve this for you with basic troubleshooting, the next step is for me to get the network team to investigate your issues for you. I'll need to get some more specific information from you in order to do this, so I've sent you a private message with my contact details (you can get to my message by clicking here)

Once I've received your email with the information that I require, I will initiate the investigation process for you as quickly as possible. In the meantime, please let me know if you have any other questions or if there is anything else that I can help you with.

Cheers,

-Bruno.

Hi there,

I've recently joined Vodafone mobile broadband, and access internet via pocket wifi.

Internet speed was ok (just ok) since joining up until the last few weeks.

I've checked my laptop, pocket wifi, and changed location as suggested in the above posts.  However, the internet connects but disconnects after a while, sometimes immediately after connection.

Is there something seriously wrong with voda internet?

The connection (or non connection) is driving me insane!

Am I entitled to get out of the contract without penalty?  Clearly, what I have signed up for is NOT 'fit for purpose'!

With connection behaviour like this, the most important info I need is to grab your postcode and the name of your suburb. From here I'll check your suburb's signal strength, and If there's any current outages affecting your service.  I'll also make note of any pending upgrades in your area, or if they're are any current upgrades being performed, which could be having an affect on your service.

It's good to see you've been through all the troubleshooting outlined in this thread. It makes it easier for us to assist you, and divulge exactly what's preventing your service from running correctly. It's unfortunate to hear you're not satisfied with your serie, however through working together I'm sure we can get your service back up to speed.

I look forward to speaking with you again.

Kind Regards,

James.

Hi James

My postcode is 2146, suburb is Toongabbie.  '3' internet works fine but I don't know what is wrong with Vodafone!

It's annoying the hell out of me as I use the internet for work purposes too.

I can definitely appreciate how important you internet service is, and want to get you back up and running as quickly as possible. Thanks for letting me know where you are! I've checked Toongabbie at suburb level on our checker here, and can see you should have great coverage. If you pop in your exact location, what coverage shows? There's no reported issues or upgrade work there at the moment, so I'd like to investigate some other possible causes of the issues you're having.

You've mentioned that your 3 service works ok. We've recently migrated our 3 customers over to using the Vodafone network (you can read more about that here)  If you pop your Vodafone SIM into another device (handset or modem) do you have the same issues with it?

I can also see you're using the Pocket Wifi; do you know if its the original Pocket Wifi, the 2 or the Pro? This will help me tailor some further troubleshooting steps with you, so we can isolate and identify the cause of the problem.

I'm looking forward to resolving this issue with you!

Thanks,

Kirsty.
