Good question.  I've found the pocket wifi 2 is more useful all round although its download speed isn't as quick as the K4511 mega modem - 7.2Mbps versus 21/28 Mbps for the K4511. You'd find that's more of a theoretical advantage though, you're not likely get those speeds in real life.

Both devices cover 850/900/2100 MHz umts bands.  I think they perform equally well though if the 3G signal is marginal, it's easier to move the pocket wifi around for best reception.

Out of the box, the pocket wifi lets you connect 5 devices by wifi to a 3G service, as well as a tethered usb connection, while the mega modem has the power of one.  That's one usb connection.  And you have to install drivers and software onto the computer. Also, the K4511 is not compatible with many 3G routers, the only one I can think of is the R101 sharing dock.

If you've got an iPad, ie with no usb ports, the pocket wifi is a better choice.  Does that help?

I have noticed alot of people commenting on connection problems and slow internet with the pocket wifi 2 (I am one of them), but very few negative comments about the mega modem. If you don't need the wifi then I would steer clear of the pocket wifi 2.
