I've tried calling the Vodafone customer service line several times but I wait around for ages (20+ mins) and then my call seems to drop so I thought I'd try my luck here.
I'm moving in 6 weeks to an area that has absolutely no vodafone reception at all. I'm moving to Moranbah QLD 4744 if you want to check it, my reception drops out around Eton and then does not come back up no matter where I move, how I hold my phone or whether I restart or configure it. Everybody else has the same problems there with Telstra being the only service provider that has decent coverage.
Anyway, I want to look into cancelling my Contract because it's pointless with me moving out there. My Contract is not up until January 2013, so I was wondering if someone could let me know my options with this. I have an iPhone 4 on a $79/per month cap Contract.
I have previously only had minor problems with Vodafone and have been a loyal customer for over 4 years.
If a Vodafone rep could please answer my post, that would be great.

You'll be charged outright for the phone or given a MPP ( I think, still learning myself about it )...
But, how far away do you have to go to get a signal? there's another choice but i'm not sure if Voda offer it, but there's a box you plug into your router and acts as a mini 3G cell and allows you to make phone calls etc use your phone as though you had a good signal... - might be a cheaper option than paying out $79 * months left

I pay $10 a month for the handset and I wouldn't mind paying that out, but I don't really want to have to pay the $79 per month x months left cos that will be quite expensive and I don't get the benefit of using the phone. I would have to drive 2 hours to get reception, so it's really not worth it to send a few texts. Plus the roads are among the most dangerous roads in QLD so I don't like the idea of not having a working phone in case something happens.

$89 * remaining months
think about it, you could get the same phone on a $29 plan and pay $40 for the phone or you could pay $120 and pay $0 for the phone and then cancel it a month later and pay out $0?. x 24, i don't think so, you'd have to pay $79 + 10 * months remaining sorry or work out some kind of agreement to pay it back installments..

I'd love to see you choose to stay with us, but as you're moving somewhere that we don't offer coverage, I can definitely make sure you get the right advice on what you can do. There are a couple of options available to you, so lets have a look at them and see which one would suit you better.
Are you looking to keep your current number? If you are wishing to retain your number, then your first option is to port your number to a provider that offers coverage at Moranbah. This will effectively end your contract with us. If you do choose to end your contract early, there will be an early exit fee. This is worked out as your minimum monthly spend ($89) multiplied by the number of months remaining in your contract.
If you don't need to keep your current number, you do have the option of getting a friend take over the remainder of your contract. This essentially transfers ownership of your service (and your number) to a third party. I do need to let you know that your handset installments are non transferable, so you would need to pay out the remaining handset installments if you wanted to take this option.
I've sent you a private message with my contact information so that I can give you some more specific information about your individual service. Once I've received your reply, I'll give you a call and get everything sorted out for you.
