I recently spent 10 days in NZ, and was expecting to get a SIM card whilst there as I hadn't set up International Roaming. When I arrived I noticed that I connected with the NZ Vodafone network. I received a txt from Vodafone AU letting me know how to call Australia and letting me know that voice calls in NZ using Vodafone Traveller call rates start at my Standard call rate + flagfall. There was no info about roaming rates, etc. I tried as much as possible to use wifi in motels, hotspots, etc, but had to keep in touch with work e-mails and social media at other times, so definitely used it outside of wifi, especially on the first day as we were doing searches on the internet for travel info, etc.
My bill (and Christmas present from Vodafone) for my 10 days in November is: $2, 387, 25!
This is like a form of loan sharking where people have to pay exorbitant interest rates. I can only imagine how much money Vodafone makes out of unsuspecting travellers not realising that they are paying up to about 2000 times the fees they would here in Australia.
I'm about to start the long process of calling up, getting passed from department to department only to be read the standard blurb. Other than take this up with the Ombudsman is there any other way of coming to some kind of arrangment with Vodafone over this laughable bill?
Thanks
