I updated my SGS2 today and there are some issues with the brightness controls. Before if i swipe my finger left or right on the top notification bar the brightness would adjust but now it doesn't. Is this meant to be a new "feature" or a bug, can you please fix this if it is a bug because it's really annoying having to go into settings all the time ![]()

Samsung did remove this as a feature.
The S3 got it replaced with a slider in the notifications area however they seemed to have just removed it all together with the s2 and the Note

Well you can go back to GingerBread but i wouldn't really rocommend it. If you want to know how, let me know and i'll email you.
One way though is if you use kies, there is a restore firmware option, which will take you back, i think.

Your query has sparked a bit of interest here and we've tested a GALAXY S2 with the latest update (4.0.3). We've still been able to adjust the brightness via the notification bar.
A couple of things to make sure of when trying to adjust the brightness this way are:
- Automatic brightness should be turned off (Settings > Display > Brightness > Automatic brightness (un-tick)
- Press and hold the notification bar until the pull down tray handle disappears, then slide left/right to adjust brightness
If you're still not having any luck with it, let me know and we may need to dive into a factory reset. Either via KIES or the handset itself.
The feature hasn't gone anywhere, so I'm sure we can get it working for you ![]()

Hi Bart and Will,
Now we've sorted out the S2, what's the story with the S3 ?
Will mentioned a slider in the notifications, but this does not appear on my phone. I am running the latest update as listed by Vodafone, i.e. the only one they have released for the S3 so far.
I did a bit of googling, and found this...
Looks like there is another update out there that we don't have as yet....
Cheers,

There has been three maintainence updates to the s3 since it was released i believe. The one Vodafone released was the first or second one.

Sorry, I have an SGS2 as well.
As Bart mentioned above, there's been a fair bit of interest around this issue, and we've posted a couple of ways to get you back in control of your screens brightness. Have you tried following these steps:
- Automatic brightness should be turned off (Settings > Display > Brightness > Automatic brightness (un-tick)
- Press and hold the notification bar until the pull down tray handle disappears, then slide left/right to adjust brightness
Let me know if these aren't working for you, and we'll look at performing some more specific troubleshooting to get you up and running.
If you've got any other questions, please let me know.
Kind Regards,
James.
