SMS sent to phone when the phone tower changes

Message 1 of 6 (1,944 Views)

This is driving me crazy, everytime my phone picks up a different tower it notifies me with a SMS. It really doesn't help living in between two towers, I get around 50 SMSs an hour when at home. This is the second time this has happened, last time I had to reset my phone to factory settings which is a pain. Now it has started again a month later, I really don't want to reset my phone every month, surely there is a better solution?

do you by any chance have an HTC?
My Brother was getting this on his HTC and he played around in the settings in the messaging menus and found a way to sort it out.
Sorry I cant be more specific,

I can definitely appreciate that you want to stop the messages- 50 messages an hour would drive me crazy too! It sounds like you have Cell Broadcast active on your handset  - you definitely shouldn't need to reset your phone to stop Cell Broadcast messages.

Cell Broadcast is a handset function, and  you'll be able to turn this off through your phone.

If you do have a HTC device as LawStudent 18 suggests and it's running Sense, you can turn it off by jumping into your Settings Menu >  Call > Cell Broadcast and then disable this setting.

I've run though this on our "try the phone" section for  HTC One X  here, and the setting looks like this on the One X:

If you're running a non-Sense device, just post back with the model and I'll be able to step you through turning off Cell Broadcast on your phone.

Thanks!

Kirsty.

Thanks guys, I have a HTC desire HD and had a look through the settings like lawstudent suggested, and found the problem. I was just about to post where I found it but kirsty beat me to it, that was exactly what was wrong. Thanks again guys, no more SMSs since last night.
