Hi
I have a SGS2 with Voda. I have unlock the handset with the network unlock pin provided by Voda (as sometimes I travel overseas and prefer to use the SIM card for other countries, rather than roaming).
After unlocking, i noticed one very very weird thing. The SIM Card was accepted (tried both Telstra and Virgin SIM) and could make and receive phone calls no problem. However, the data connection was just not there. Namely, the 3G icon would not be there at all. I initially thought it was an APN issue, so i reset the APN (Telstra and Virgin sending configuring message to the phone). However, it still does not work at all, no data connection, not even the 3G icon next to the signal strength bar at all.
When I replugged the Voda sim card back into the phone, the 3G icon comes back into life.
Can someone please explain this? Is it because Voda's stock ROM has a data for other carriers (it would be rather inconvenient if I could not use my overseas SIM cards' data connection)?
Thx

Hi GW2000,
I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues accessing data when using another providers SIM in your SGS2.
One of the reasons that you may not be able to utilise data is that the frequency bands for your SGS2 may not be compatible with alternative carriers network. The SGS2 accesses bands 850, 900, 1800 & 1900 for a 2G connection and bands 850, 900, 1900 & 2100 for a 3G connection.
Thankyou for letting me know that you have had the APN reset by having configuration messages sent to your phone. I would recommend trying to set up the APN manually to see if this resolves your issue. You can find details on how to manually set up an APN here.
Please let me know how you go with manually setting up the APN.
Thanks,
Gemma
