I complained about the poor battery life I was experiencing after updating to ICS (via KIES) because I was getting about 5.5 to 6 hours battery life before shutdown, All the other people who have also identified this issue, and I'm glad I'm not the only one because that might mean I had a faulty phone, were advise to back-up their data, do a factory re-set and restore everything. Which sounds quite trivial but since KIES is such a shoddy piece of software it took about an hour to back up 374 photos and 2 short videos, I don't keep SMS so I backed up perhaps 30 of them, contacts are managed by Google so no phone contacts and whatever settings that are in the 'Other' category. The reset took about 15 minutes to finally complete, then another 10 minutes fiddling around with re-entering the Google and Samsung accounts and then the happy task of going to the 'Play Store' to restore the applications which is about another hour (and god knows how many MB of my data allowance) so that's about 3 hours in total
I did this and the life expectancy of the phone has now diminished - maybe 4 hours if I'm lucky.
I don't have any high expectations from the experts here to provide any meaningful suggestions, but I'll give it a go and see if anyone can provide the merest suggestion of a solution for ...
1. resetting the battery stats (other forums have a way of doing this but this forum doesn't allow any discussion of this method)
2. doing a factory re-set via KIES, I'm already awar of the power/home/vol button combination to do a hard reset but I though that the software would allow me to do a new fresh installation of the firmware but it's so shoddy I can't see any option in the KIES Tools drop-down menu that even hints at reloading the firmware.
The last thing I would contemplate is taking a day off work to go into town and wait at a service centre

the dude at 1555 said he didn't know how to re-install the firmware or reset the battery statistics but said my only option is to take a day off work, go to a store and get them to send the phone to a service centre where they would re-install Gingerbread and then upgrade it. It would take 7 - 10 working days but they might lend me a phone if there was one available at that store.
- that's an hour on the phone that I'll never get back
