Hi,
I got the rolling out message "An update is available. install now". Once I clicked "install now", the phone switched off itself. Then I switch the phone on again. It loads Google screen. Then it loads the next loading screen, and it keeps loading for 40 mins. I turned it off, and turn on the phone again. Then it gets stuck at that screen again.
While the screen is loading, my computer detects that "The USB device is not recognised".
Updating from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4.
I need help urgently. Thanks.

Just more info for you, I boot to recovery mode. There is a red exclaimation mark with the android icon lying dead.
I got a update.zip from before(I tried to update the phone to 4.0.4 before the official one rolls out, but ended up didn't get time to do it).
It shows me these:
-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package..
Opening update packate...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_space(15916988)
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Instgallation aborted.
Should I do a "wipe data/factory reset"?

The easist fix is to use fastboot. Do you know how to use that?

Hi mate,
I just tried wiping data in fastboot. It cleared my personal data and starts again. Woohoo! Strangely enough, it is updated to 4.0.4! What a dramatic update!~~!!!!!!!
Thanks for your help
Very very strange. But I'm happily testing it now ![]()
My computer is yet to recognise the phone still. Trying "Update driver" in device manager, browsing software from C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
Symptom: It won't even load the USB screen in my phone when I connect the phone to the USB like it usually do. Tried turning USB debugging mode on and off, both won't work.

Ignore this then!
Do you mean fastboot on your phone or PC? Do you have the android SDK installed on your PC?
You likely corrupted the system files by having 2 update files in there. you will need to do a few fastboot commands.
Download the factory system files from here http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html#s
If you got your phone from voda it should be the 850mzh version.
You will need to extract the files using something like winRAR and place them in the same folder as fastboot.exe
1. Fastboot oem unlock
2. fastboot flash bootloader "whateverextracted file is".img
3. fastboot reboot-bootloader
4. fastboot flash radio "whateverextracted file is".img
5. fastboot reboot-bootloader
6. fastboot flash system "whateverextracted file is".img
7. fastboot reboot-bootloader
8. Fastboot oem lock

Thanks for your effort. I edited my post above. There is a new problem that I'm googling and asking here. See if we can tackle this as well. Thanks.

I would still do the above just to be sure provided you can get USB in fastboot.

I restarted the phone, it says "Preparing USB storage. Checking usb errors" and like before, not connecting.
Therefore, I'm downloading from the phone. Will have a go and let you know how it went. Thanks.

Before that maybe try another PC or USB port. It could be a PC problem.

LOL!!!! You are right! I plugged in the usb to the docking station at work. It used to work with 4.0.3. For 4.0.4, I just need to plug it into the REAL usb port at the laptop itself
HAHAHAHA!!! I call it a "successful" update then
Thanks for your help today mate!!! It's been dramatic ![]()
